Mural Opportunity: Milkweed Habitat

I was recently chosen among a handful of other artists to create murals for the transformer cabinets around Fort Collins this year for the Art In Public Places Transformer Mural Project!

I am so blessed and honored to have this opportunity, along with a handful of other artists this year!

I am titling it "Milkweed Habitat". My theme is a stand of blossoming pink milkweed, covered in Swallowtail butterflies and other local butterflies and bugs that call the milkweed their home.

My idea was to show the beauty and necessity of the milkweed plant, to show that it is not only a beautiful flowering plant, but also a native food, textile and habitat for many beneficial insects! My hope is that people will see my mural, recognize the milkweed around town and say "That's not a weed, that's a beautiful flower!"

Here are some hand drawn sketches of what it should look like :)
